What was the hardest part about creating a WordPress website?
The hardest part about creating a WordPress website was dealing with the very limited flexibility when editing blocks and content. While WordPress offers many templates and pre-built themes, customizing them beyond basic changes often feels restrictive. I struggled with trying to make the design align with my vision, especially when certain blocks didn’t allow for the level of detail and customization I wanted.
Do you have any future plans for your website?
Yes, I definitely have plans to use my website in the future. It will serve as a professional portfolio to showcase my projects, skills, and experience. I want to continuously update and improve it as I acquire more skills and complete new projects. I also plan to integrate more interactive elements, like forms and multimedia, as I continue to grow as a web designer and developer.
Did you gravitate toward anything particular during this class?
Yes, I found myself gravitating toward HTML and CSS because of their simplicity and ease of use. I really enjoyed working on the projects and refreshing my memory, especially as I could see how small changes in code could instantly affect the layout and functionality of a website. It was satisfying to be able to create something tangible so quickly, and it gave me a solid foundation to build on for more advanced web development.
Is there anything you feel you would like to go deeper on?
I know we didn’t really use it, but I would love to go deeper into JavaScript, particularly with how it can be used to create dynamic elements like forms, interactive features, and other user-driven content. I’ve realized how powerful JavaScript is for enhancing user experience and functionality, and I want to explore more complex applications of it to further enrich my web development skills.
Do you feel more empowered to hire or be a web designer in the future?
Yes, I definitely feel more empowered to either hire or be a web designer in the future. This course has equipped me with the tools and knowledge to create a professional portfolio, and I now have more to showcase. The confidence I’ve gained from completing hands-on projects has inspired me to pursue web design more seriously, and I now feel more prepared to take on freelance projects or even consider a full-time career in web design.
What have you gained from taking this course in relation to your degree?
This course has been a great refresher and an invaluable addition to my degree in Software Engineering. The projects we worked on provided a hands-on approach to web design that I didn’t necessarily get from my formal studies. I’ve gained more knowledge on various ways to create a website, beyond just backend development, and it’s helped me integrate both design and functionality. It’s also expanded my skill set to include tools that are more industry-specific, such as WordPress and front-end development.
